Almost 3 weeks ago, our furry-one was very lethargic. She was forcing herself to drink but not eat solid food. She was sleeping more than running and jumping around the house. We have noticed that a lump has grown above her chest. It has hardened. On that Friday, she was almost out of energy. I brought her to the vet and after an x-ray (a very expensive one), I was told that she has tumor everywhere her chest. The vet said, with Miquo’s condition (at that time), she might not last over the weekend. I asked for pain reliever that would be good for the weekend.
At the vet’s exam room, she was given a canned dog food so that she can ingest her pain reliever pills. She showed appetite but later shied away from it. I brought her home and told Karen about her condition. When we came home from work on Friday, Miquo was still sleeping and lacked energy. That night, she can barely hold herself up. Her hind legs were very weak and appear to have a fever. She was trying to contain the pain that she is feeling. We thought she will die in her sleep.
The following day, she was still sluggish but a little bit energetic (must be with the pain reliever working). I found out, too that her lump had burst and there were liquid discharges on her chest coat. Karen baked ham that day. Through out the day, Miquo walked around and seem to slowly regaining her strength. Later that day, we gave her the bone of the ham Karen cooked.
Over the weekend, Miquo slowly regained strength. She started to gain appetite and eat more then the previous days. She cannot jump over to our bed but she still able to go up and down the stairs (over a dozen steps).
3 weeks later, she is back from where she used to be. Jolly dog, always waiting for us from the front door sidelite, and always wanted to walk with me to the mailbox when we get home from work. By the way, she is 15 (human) years old.
