55th Wedding Anniversary

2012 was a big year for my parents. It was the commemoration of their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Like their 50th anniversary, this was an event to remember. But unlike their 50th anniversary, the preparation was more subdued. We were surrounded with relatives and friends as we celebrated this special milestone in the life of our parents.

DTW was convenient because it was just an hour away from my brother compared to Pearson International which was a good 3 hours away. Preparation for my parent’s 55th Anniversary started as soon as we arrived. The church gym slowly turned into a reception hall. It was quite a reunion for us. It was amazing to see our parents enjoy the event as friends and relatives were there to celebrate with us.

This trip to Sarnia was at the back-end of our vacation that brought us to Anaheim and Las Vegas. Our flight back Fredericton was when the adventure began. My brother brought us to DTW for our flight back to PWM via Dulles. We had a couple of luggages checked-in. We knew our connecting flight would be tight (less than hour). When we got to Dulles, our arrival gate was on a different concourse to our connecting flight. It was a workout taking off from one gate to the next. We were able to board our flight. However, when our plane started to taxi our from the gate, we saw our checked-in luggage being loaded to the plane next to us. Long story short, our checked-in luggage didn’t arrive with us. Kyle was disappointed because he had most of his VideoCon ‘gooddies’ in it.

We stayed overnight in Portland hoping that our bags will arrive in the last flight or early flight from DC but it was not meant to be. It took almost 2 weeks for our bags to get delivered to our house. The airline’s 800 number didn’t help tracking our bags. I think it was the airport crew (wherever our bags were) who after realizing the error tried to rectify it. It took longer for our luggage to arrive because we are from Canada that boarded a plane in the U.S.
