KIDS!
On Saturday, I went to watch my son and his middle school volleyball team play in a tournament in the city. I’ve never watched him play volleyball. I know he plays basketball well. He was at one time in his middle school track team (running 400m and 4x100m relay). My son told me earlier in the day that they won their first game and lost their second game. Then I was there to watch their third game that if they win, they will be in the finals.

I was late going to the game site and was able to watch the deciding set which my son was not on the court but his team won. Having won that game, they went to the finals. I was able to watch the final game and witness first hand my son’s volleyball game. I was impressed. He made a couple of saves, 2 or 3 spikes, and scored about 5 points while serving and 2 errors in his first set game. It was during his serve that his team pulled away and then won the first set.
He was pulled out in the second set and did not play. His teammates were equally impressive. These kids also play other team sports through out the year (from soccer to football to hockey to basketball, and now volleyball). To make my story short, they won that game and got a 1st Place medal.
My daughter will graduate Grade 12 in June. She has applied to both universities in the city and was accepted. That is a big sigh of relief knowing that we will not be worrying about her board and lodging for the coming school year.
My daughter started to drive this year. She is also driving me nuts! There are pluses and minuses. She is showing a lot of responsibility when she drives (by herself) and I’m delighted with that.
Did I mention she went to audition for Canadian Idol in Halifax? She passed the first set of judge/s? On her second round, the judge told her she had good vocal performance but no stage presence. I think she has to learn that. And maybe next year, she’ll get to be seen by the celebrity judges. It was a positive experience for her. She was disappointed she didn’t make it but pleased that judges took note of her vocal talent.
I’ve told several times to my kids that they are living my childhood dream.
