Karen debuts…
Karen started as the choir leader of Grace Memorial United Baptist Church (GMUBC) on Feb 16, 1997. Coincidentally, the new Senior Pastor preached his sermon on the same Sunday. It has been more than two years since her last conducting stint with Crusade Bible Church. She had butterflies in her stomach during her first choir practice. But she is gradually regaining her confidence at the helm. Last Sunday – March 2, 1997, her husband supplied as the choir accompanist/pianist. The GMUBC choir is busy preparing for an Easter Cantata.
Keshia speeds through…
Keshia is taking advantage of the winter activities. She is enrolled in a speed skating class. Keshia likes ice skating very much. She can skate well (just after experiencing two winters). Her speed skating season ends this March but she have learned a lot (like skating with one foot). She will have a lot of time to practice her skills during the March break. At the same time, she still has to practice her piano lessons, sweeps the floor after meals, and of course watch ‘The Magic School’ with her brother – Kyle.
Kyle as usual…
is very active in everything. He has abandoned his interest in jigsaw puzzle. His favorite past time is singing the Alphabet Song (A, B, C…). He continues to like books. Kyle has learned new words including samput (while Kyle points to his butt).
The Snow Storm of Spring ’97
Spring ’97 started with a … snow. Two snow storms sweep through out the Maritimes at the start of Spring. One storm isolated Moncton for about 48 hours from the rest of the region. The total amount of snow fall during those two snow storm was close to 100 inches. The weather is unpredictable these days. As they say…It’s weird, eh!
Spring is two months old but it has not felt like spring. It is more of like the early weeks of winter. The Saint John River has flooded river banks. It rose to about 7 meter recently. It was scary for most residents living along the banks but nothing serious happened..so far (unlike what happened in Winnepeg).
Keshia’s First Piano Recital.
After being enrolled to a piano teacher in February, Keshia will be participating in their Piano Recital. It is her first piano recital. Keshia has learned her piano basics from her parents. She has started John Thompson Grade 1 book when she enrolled with Mrs. Hunger. Keshia is always excited in learning her lessons because she can earn point for playing good that can translate to some “goodies” . She has learned a lot. ( Not that she has not learned anything before.) That is one of the reasons why Keshia is so excited this June.
The other reason is…of course, summer vacation as in real vacation. Keshia’s parents are planning to drive down to Ontario and Ohio this summer. She said that she will bring her roller blade during this trip. As you have learned (from last months or many months ago), Keshia is into speed skating. And changing gears (roller blades, that is) was not difficult for her. She has not skated (in-line skates) ever in her life but when she got one, it was like breathing to her. She enjoys skating every opportunity she has. Her parents has cautioned her to take care everytime she goes out skating.
Kyle continues to be…
_____ (fill in the blanks). He is a grown up now. He begins writing letters such as A, B, C, D, H, K, and L. He also draws a car or a truck (but it takes one to have a creative mind to figure it out). He still likes to read and as a matter of fact he always borrow books from the church library. His favorite books are Clifford (the big red dog), The Bearestein Bears, and … He also loves watching bible stories on video (which the church has). As young as he is, he can operate the VCR and TV for him to watch his tapes. And when watching his favorite TV shows, he presses 1-2 on the remote to go to PBS where Mr Roger’s Neighborhood, Magic School Bus, and Arthur are shown. He also knows their time slot. He has been very talkative lately. His vocabulary is increasing everyday.
