Of Reunion, Of Wedding, and Passing On

We had a brief break this June to attend the wedding of my niece in Ontario. With the addition of West Jet from our city, there are several flights to Toronto everyday. We took the early evening flight to Toronto on Wednesday. The flight to Toronto was smooth. After we landed, we had enough time to take the airport train to Viscount Station and be picked up by our rental car company which off-site the airport.

We got our rental car which was upgraded to a van (thanks rental car company) because they didn’t have a full size car available. We had dinner at Swiss Chalet which was across the street from where we pick up our van. Swiss Chalet was still offering the Father’s Day Special – “2 can dine for $14.99”.

It was almost 9:30 pm when we drove back to Pearson International Airport to pick Keshia and Josiah who is arriving at 10 pm. We got out of Terminal 1 at 10:40 pm and started our drive to Sarnia. It was past 1 am when we parked on the driveway of my brother’s house. I told myself – I’m getting old for this night driving for almost 3 hours.

On Friday, we attended the 1st birthday of my great niece (yes, we are getting older). We had a reunion with my brothers and family. They came from West Orange, NJ and Saskatoon, SK. We had a great time. After we (brothers) started to have a family and lived in separate places, we never imagined that decades later, we will have periodic reunions depending of the special events.

The last few years, weddings of our daughter, and nieces have been the main reason to be together. The other year, my father’s death brought us together again. Last year, we celebrated the 85th birthday of my mother. It is great to get together as siblings and it is greater for cousins (our kids and my brother’s kids) to reconnect and build lasting relationships with one another.

On Saturday, our niece got married. It was a joyful occasion. The reception was a time of celebration. We get to meet our uncles and aunts as well.

On Sunday, we had breakfast with my brother’s family before they started their drive back to NJ. The rest of the morning, we spent time with my brother and his wife from SK. After lunch, we started our drive back to Mississauga to pick up some Asian groceries and walk around Square One before returning our rental van and head to Pearson International for our flight back home.

We arrived home at 1:40 am Monday morning and went to work at 8:15 am.

Tuesday morning at 3:15 am, our dog had a seizure while in bed. It was a brief episode and 1st of several episode within the day. Before we left for work, she had another one. I have to go out-of-town for the day. By the time I got home at 7 pm. She had several seizure in the span of 2 hours. She looked tired and disoriented by then. Later in the evening, we brought her to the vet where she died.

Miquo was 15 years and 4 months.
