At last, Spring!

New family member

Yes! We have a new addition to the family. We have a dog. Her name is Miquo – a purebred lhasa apso. She was 11 weeks when she arrived home.

Keshia and Kyle were excited to have the dog. We told them not to exhaust their excitement with the dog. This is just the beginning. We’ve learned (from books and information from the internet) that lhasa apsos can live 15 to 17 years. Kyle and Keshia have completed their university years by then. But for now, they are busy training Miquo to use the wash room.

Kyle turns 7

Kyle celebrated his birthday with seven of his classmates and friends at Kingswood Park. He had a lot of fun! They played in the Jungle Gym before they were treated to pizza, pop, and ice cream cake. Of course, Kyle got to blow the seven candles on his cake. After that, the kids were given game tokens to be used in the arcade. Each game equipment in the arcade gives out tickets after a player completes a game. These tickets can be redeemed for toys at the counter at a later time. Kyle has outgrown the Barney and Sesame Street years into the Pokemon and Digimon era.

Keshia

Keshia has completed another Speedskating season. She missed the last meet because of a snow storm (although the meet in St. Andrews went on). She had a handful of Personal Best (PB) times which is at par with her age-group (Bantam).
Piano She was busy after that preparing for the Fredericton Music Festival. For the first time in her 3 years in the festival, she entered in the vocal solo classes (Musical Theater and Sacred). She showed rookie jitters in vocal solo classes but not outclassed by the others. Keshia continues to show her quick study skills by being first in her Grade 4 Quick Study class. She also tied first in another Piano Solo category and second in two more Piano Solo class enough for her to receive a medal and a cash price.

The festival drew more than 2,000 young musicians from Fredericton and surrounding communities. There were close to 600 performances in six venues in the city.

And yes…

At last, it is spring! But winter here made its last hurrah towards the end of April. St Johns, Newfoundland had 15cm of snow on the 1st of May. Out here, you have a better chance of snow on Easter Sunday than Christmas Day.
Anyway, spring is here and brighter days are ahead. We had the changing of the guards – snow shovel for rake and lawn mower. We started cleaning the yard. Karen has prepared her garden. Jr fertilized the lawn and we are all set for Victoria Day weekend – when most people start planting.

This is it for our Spring 2001 Edition. We will add some pictures on this page from time to time so we hope you can visit us again.
