After hybernating for 4 months, people here has come out. The same with this webmaster who has been kept in the freezer for the past 4 months. It is not that nothing has happened for the first months of 1998 but…(well, the webmaster was not available to update the page, period.) Some highlights were The Ice Storm of 1998, Kyle turned 4, The Fredericton Music Festival where Keshia entered the 9 and under Piano Solo, and many more.
Temperatures has started going up and Fredericton has experienced warm and humid weather recently. And we are very excited of things to come…summer. But before anything else, let us recall some highlights in the past 4 months.
Eastern Canada experienced its worst Ice Storm in years. Ice literally toppled down electrical towers, post, and power lines. The storm rendered 90% of Quebec, some parts of North East Ontario, and Northern New Brunswick with no power for about 3 weeks. The graphic news footages showed natures devastating power. Power companies from New Brunswick, Ontario, Maine, and New York came over to restore power. Thousands of Canadian Forces were deployed into Quebec to help secure the area and help in the clean up. For the first time in Montreal Canadeans history, they cancelled their home game at the Forum against the New York Ranger.A selfless display of unity among Canadians made this natural calamity bearable to those affected. Analysts estimated the cost of the damage to be $2 billion.
Kyle turned 4
He was very excited to celebrate his birthday. Good thing he didn’t remember all the things he asked for his birthday. He was satisfied to see his dog shape cake and a thousand pieces MegaBlock. It is also our third year in Canada. Kyle was just one year old when we came to Canada. One scary experience we had the moment we came out from the terminal was to feel the -40 wind chill. Kyle passed-out when we were in the car. He was “revived” 15 minutes later when we stopped at my aunt’s apartment for a warm milk. Kyle don’t even remember that. Three years later, he is now a big boy. The typical 4 year old with many why? questions. It is also very interesting to see how they learn things.
Keshia entered The Fredericton Music Festival 9 and under Piano Solo held at UNB. This is her first time to join such Festival (although her class choir in Grade 2 sang in last year’s festival). She played Bourre by JS Bach and Mist by Poole. She didn’t figure in the top 3 but submitted impressive scores for starters (as her teacher noted). She will also perform during their mid-year recital this May. Keshia will take her Grade 1 RCM exam in June.
Coming and Going
Karen’s mother will be coming this spring for a visit. My parents will be going back to Ontario, too. Talk about the changing of the guards.
School year 1997-98 will end in less than 2 months, that makes Keshia more excited. Karen will also be completing her 48-week course. But she will be back to school in the fall to take up Software Specialist course.
So this is all for the Spring edition of The Home Page. I hope you will visit again in the summer. So long…
